Upon arriving in Nyingchi, please refer to the Tibet Travel Tips provided earlier. Allow your body time to adjust to the plateau environment by resting, drinking water, and moving slowly.

Highlights of the Day

  • Lama Ling Monastery

  • Yani Wetland

Morning

After your flight arrives in Nyingchi, our guide will meet you at the airport. You will have lunch and then begin your sightseeing.

Your first destination is Lama Ling Monastery, located about 30 kilometers southeast of Bayi Town in a forested valley. The monastery’s golden rooftop shines among the green pines, surrounded by blooming flowers such as chrysanthemums and Gesang flowers. The sound of bells, drums, and chanting fills the valley, creating a peaceful spiritual atmosphere.

Lama Ling Monastery was built in the late 1930s and belongs to the Nyingma (Red Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Its design is unique: the temple has a square base, multi-angled eaves, and a golden roof shaped like a stupa. The outer walls are painted in four colors—white, blue, red, and green—making the monastery look like a jewel set in the mountains. Inside, you can see statues of Guru Padmasambhava (the founder of the Nyingma school) and Shakyamuni Buddha, as well as sacred footprints and exquisite murals considered masterpieces of eastern Tibet. Around the temple, you may also spot two grey sheep raised by monks, each with a small bell tied to its neck, adding to the monastery’s charm.

Afternoon

Next, visit the Yani Wetland, a beautiful natural reserve with clear rivers and meadows. The wetland is surrounded by mountains and forests, offering fresh air and a peaceful atmosphere. This stop is the perfect introduction to the natural beauty of Tibet and a great way to relax after your journey.
