Highlights of the Day

• Tashilhunpo Monastery

Morning

After breakfast, visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, located at the foot of Nise Ri Mountain in Shigatse. Known as the “Auspicious Sublime Monastery,” it is the largest monastery in the region and one of the six major Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism.

Founded by the disciple of Tsongkhapa during the Ming Dynasty, it houses the giant Maitreya Buddha statue and historical stupas. The monastery complex includes multiple halls, temples, and monastic colleges, offering a deep insight into Tibetan religious culture.

Afternoon

After exploring the monastery, return to Lhasa. Enjoy the scenic drive across the Tibetan plateau, taking in views of mountains, rivers, and traditional villages along the way.
